What to do after being rejected in a singing audition
How can you overcome a singing audition rejection when all you dreamed about was to let the world know that you can sing and that your voice exist!? What should you do after a singing rejection audition?
Sometimes it is difficult to see how we can move forward, especially when we rely on this opportunity as the only one to make our dreams come true. After all, singing is the thing that drives our soul to the most wonderful feelings and there is nothing better than the feeling we have after a performance.
Here are 5 things you can do to prepare yourself for before and after your audition. These simple but powerful steps will help you move forward in case of a rejection.
#1 Mental preparation:
Prepare yourself mentally before you audition. By doing so, you will be able to have little or no nerves when you are performing. Then, regardless of the results; you will be able to feel peace in your mind.
Have your mind ready for anything and focus on doing your best. I promise you will feel so proud of yourself when you are done with the audition because you had the courage to show up for yourself, you sang, you tried. The audition was only one more step ahead in your journey as a singer.
#2 Enjoy the moment:
Auditions take hours! So enjoy the moment and the opportunity to be with other talented singers like you. Make friends if you so desire!
The last time I auditioned there was a guy sitting right next to me. As we started to talk, he told me he had come all the way down from California to audition. I thought that was so cool! Later, we became friends. Now I get to see how he keeps working on his music, and how he is progressing as a singer. None of us passed the audition that day, but I did learn some valuable lessons:
One, all of us were there because we had something in common, a dream to sing and let people hear our voices. There is so many wonderful singers in the world, but no one has your voice, so Love yourself and your voice.
And two, making those connections with musicians and singers is just a very unique and valuable experience. Throughout the years you get to see their journey and it could inspire you to keep going on your own journey.
#3 Understand what TV shows look for:
This is important. In general, TV shows look for specific sounds, stories, backgrounds, and people. Do not get discouraged if they do not choose you the day of your audition.
When I auditioned there was a girl that sang so beautifully. I was amazed by her voice. Unfortunately the judges did not pick her. I started to wonder, why!? what is wrong with them?! She did such a great job, why didn’t they pick her?
If a person gets rejected on an audition, it doesn’t necessarily mean that she or he can’t sing well. If this happens to you, remember this is just one more reason to keep singing.
#4 Manage hurtful comments:
And the moment came! when you finally get to sing after all that preparation of practicing your songs over and over again! I understand, it is nerve racking! Judges or the people around you may say things that are hard to hear. They may also just say “Sorry, we will not invite you to the next audition”. Even those words can hurt if you do not prepare mentally before your audition.
Learn to manage your emotions and to get the best out of this day. If your feelings are hurt after you get rejected, remember, this is was only one opportunity to show your talent, There are a lot more opportunities ahead of you.
#5 Raise up better than ever:
After this crazy day of your audition, think about the “good” and the “bad” things that happened to you. What did you learn? How did this experience make you better?
Take the best out of this audition to keep learning and growing as a singer. Do not let a audition rejection stop you from singing!
That is all for now beautiful singer! I hope these 5 tips will help you before, during, and after your singing audition.
You are unique! Love yourself and love your voice.
