Where to start if you are a beginner singer?
Maybe you think that you have this wonderful talent but you do not know how to use it, or you have some experience as a singer but are not sure if you are singing correctly. These and other doubts could be a sign that you have desires to start singing more seriously. And if you are asking yourself where should I start if I am a beginner singer? Then these steps will help you out to have more clarity of what to do next:
Sing songs that are easy for you.
Start easy on yourself. Listen to songs that you love and that you feel that are easy for your voice. Listen carefullly and try to imitate the pitch. Remember that if you feel that you are pushing your vocal chords or that you are singing from your throat, then it is a good moment to stop and take a break.
As singers sometimes we get so excited to nail a song so quickly and move to the next one. As you start working on your singing, remember to don’t be too hard on yourself. Singing correctly takes practice, just be patient, you will get there!
Work on your mindset
As a singer, it is so important to understand that you need to work on your mindset as well as your technique. Both things are equally important to be able to keep singing without damaging your voice and to constantly improve your talent.
As you start in your singing journey, you will soon realize that you need to be mentally prepared to be able to sing on pitch, control your nerves when you perform, and really be ready for all the physical and situational things that happen when you sing. Remember that your mindset will be your foundation to keep singing and to make your dreams come true.
Get a vocal coach.
Yes! Find a vocal coach that will help you develop a good technique and that will help you understand how your body works when you sing. Find that vocal coach that will support you every step of the way and that will truly help you progress. Technique is so important! If you are starting and you do not know how to sing correctly, or even when you feel that you sing fairly well; having a vocal coach will make the difference.
Practice everyday but take breaks if necessary.
Apply what you learn from your singing lessons on your personal practices . Make a conscientious effort to keep improving, but, take breaks if you feel that you are forcing your voice. It is better to pause if you feel that something is wrong than finishing a song pushing it to the point of damaging your vocal chords. A good singer also knows when to give a break to him or herself and come back with power.
Take care of your voice.
There are many ways to keep that beautiful voice of yours up and running. The most important things that you could do as you start in your singing journey are:
Warm up before singing: When you warm up you are preparing your vocal chords for the fun part! There are many warm ups that you can find on the internet and do them at home. You can also ask your vocal coach if you can record the warm ups on the piano that he or she make you do during your lessons. Play those at home and warm up before you sing. Have some fun, you can even dance as you warm up!
Do not strain your voice: Be aware of the signs that your body gives you, which could indicate that you are straining your voice. You may need to take it easy. Be patient with yourself as you take a break.
Drink water : Make sure you drink plenty of water every day. Take a water bottle with you to your singing lessons and anytime you go out. This will help your vocal chords be hydrated and will make a huge difference when you sing.
Now that you have the basics to start in your singing journey. I encourage you to do not give up! You got this singer! Remember that working in your mindset as a singer is essential to keep developing your talent. I can’t wait to see how far you go with your beautiful voice!
